The Vallée du Bijou was created in 2010 by the Boutières and Pays du Cheylard local authorities.
The idea is to promote the jewellery industry, which has the highest concentration of jobs in this sector in France.
The two local authorities were subsequently brought together to form the Val'Eyrieux Community of Municipalities, which has continued to support this joint project.
In 2015, the Maison du Bijou was opened in Le Cheylard. The first facility dedicated to the expertise of the jewellery industry, this interpretation centre aims to tell the story of the jewellery industry in the Boutières region, as well as showcasing local creations and developing events.
In 2018, it's the turn of the jewellery workshop to open its doors in the cradle of jewellery in Saint-Martin-de-Valamas, in the fully restored Murat factory. The workshop is both an immersive museum and a business incubator for young jewellers.
The aim of the Vallée du Bijou is to develop a strong identity for the Boutières region and, more broadly, for Val'Eyrieux. In this way, it will enhance the economic, natural and cultural heritage of the region as a whole.
By consolidating the Vallée du Bijou with the presence of the Maison du Bijou and the Atelier du Bijou, the Val'Eyrieux Community of Municipalities is strengthening its roots in the area's history, while at the same time opening it up to innovation and creativity.
