The VELAY-EXPRESS takes you through meadows and forests. You'll discover the magnificent, wide-open spaces of the Vivarais-Lignon plateau, with glimpses of the Monts du Forez, the Mézenc and the Gerbier de Joncs on the horizon. Travelling at the slow pace of the trains of yesteryear, you'll rediscover the feeling of being "out of time" and enjoy a rare pleasure: the harmony of man and landscape.
From the wisps of smoke from a steam locomotive, to the wooden seats of a passenger carriage, to the armchairs of a 1930s railcar, with the VELAY-EXPRESS you can relive 70 years of railway technology.
The operation of the line, and the maintenance and restoration of the vehicles, are carried out entirely by the volunteers of the Voies Ferrées du Velay association. They are the ones who welcome you on board and share their passion for preserving an authentic and exceptional railway heritage, representative of the French secondary railroads.
Free transport of bicycles on board the train, upon reservation.
