Rochebonne castle

Remains of the fortified castle built in the 11th and 13th centuries with views of Les Boutières mountain range.

At an altitude of 850 m, Château de Rochebonne stands sentinel over the Eyrieux valley. It offers a remarkable view of the Boutières mountain range and the Mézenc-Gerbier massif.

The remains of this 11th-century monument are steeped in history. You'll be captivated by the legendary nature of the site and its natural surroundings. It was once a vast and magnificent seigneurial residence, belonging to the illustrious and ancient house of Châteauneuf.

You can explore the castle from the village of Saint-Martin-de-Valamas on a hiking trail. Along the way, you'll enjoy a typical landscape of terraced fields, chestnut trees and a variety of flowers.
